2012 limits - Social Security (OASDI) Wage Base limit for CY2012 is $110,100.00. The current effective tax rate of 4.2% is scheduled to expire on 12/31/12. Medicare wages have no maximum and the effective tax rate remains at 1.45%.

Exempt from taxes - Employees who filed "exempt" from taxes on your 2011 W-4, be advised the exemption expires February 16, 2012. You must submit an updated W-4 by 2/29/12 to continue your exemption. Federal withholdings may be set to Single-0 on 3/1/12. See publication 505, Tax Withholding and Estimated Tax.

Tax Treaty Benefit - Individuals governed by tax treaty benefit should be aware that Form 8233 should be updated annually, no later than March 15, 2012. If we do not receive a current year Form 8233 your treaty benefits will be suspended until the form is received. Tax exempt benefits are not retroactive.

Moved? Please remember to update your address with Human Resources to ensure timely receipt of your W-2's as well as any other notices.

If moving to a different state jurisdiction, you must visit the Payroll Office to complete the appropriate tax form(s) . Changing your address with Human Resources DOES NOT update your tax information.

Note for International Students and Scholars: Local customer assistance (walk-in) sites no longer train their employees on foreign issues (due to resource constraints). In fact, most offices have been instructed not to even carry the forms and publications that an international student or scholar might need.
